“What It Means to Me… God”
God. What a beautiful, wonderful and confusing word. It has meant so many different things to me throughout my life, up to the day it came to mean everything.
As a child, grace was said sometimes at dinner and church was attended from time to time. The only real images I got were of a giant hand reaching down from the sky or some fellow in a great robe and a great beard sitting on a great throne in the heavens. Great. And when I heard the words “omnipotent” and “omnipresent” I had to ask what they meant. When I discovered that that meant some old dude in the sky was somehow capable of anything imaginable and also somehow everywhere at once, I did my best to put it out of my mind.
A great many years passed where I called myself agnostic. I didn’t know what was up, and I couldn’t really see any way to find out. Then I found out. Continue reading “What It Means to Me… God”

To learn a new skill we must possess a desire to learn a new skill, and bettering yourself is surely something you do for yourself. If you better yourself in order to better serve others, being of service to others is your selfish desire. You want it. That’s selfish. It’s a healthy kind of selfish, but it’s still selfish. “What It Means To Me… Living In The Moment”
We’ve all experienced it to some degree…in doing something we love, or something we are good at; in a satisfying meditation practice; in a quiet moment by the crashing ocean; or in a lover’s embrace…there you are, neither tilting your mind into the future nor levering your energy into the past…and the moment opens up its sweet fullness to you…ahhh…
Then the phone yells at you and your spouse rings to pick it up and…the moment is racing by and you’ve fallen behind again.
